Churches Don’t Like Me

This happened. It wasn’t with the TV though… I was flipping through radio channels for no good reason while driving through Nebraska and landed on this insane religious channel. I swear, I could listen to shit like that and have inspiration for an eternity worth of comics.

And yeah… even if I wanted to go to church, I can’t. The awful, circular logic and Bible quotes taken so far out of context about kill my brains… and the angry mush makes me do things I later regret. Like eating babies in the baptismal.

blog... blog... blog...

Updates, Changes, and the Future

Well, I just realized I haven’t posted a blog on here in a while, so I’m doing that now. This will just be a quick update on what I’ve added recently, some changes that are to come, and a quick breakdown on why I might be late on some strips in the near future.

First off, I’m moving from Kansas City, MO to Lincoln, NE… it’s about a 3 hour drive and I’m doing it over the course of 3 weekends while still working fulltime inbetween them. Because of that, some of the comics may be less detailed than others and some may be posted later than others. That’s out of my hands at this point, but there will be something posted 5 days a week (it might just be two strips here, one there, and another two over whereever… who knows).

Second, I’ve started going through the archive and Tagging everything I can. On the right sidebar, at the bottom, you can see a collection of them all and clicking on them will take you to a preview page of all the comics within that tag. The bigger and bolder the word, the more comics within that tag. It’ll give the archive a bit more depth to it and will make it easier for you to find what you want via tags and search. It’ll also be a much easier way to keep the running gags straight in your (and my) head.

Third, I want to redo the website sometime and am rethinking the dimensions of the comic. It’s usually 600xSomething, with the occasional 700 or 800 depending on frames and detail… if you have opinions, let them be known. And as a subpoint here, I’m going to be doing something called Artsy Fartsy Fridays in the near future. I’ve done one or two here and there, and basically it has been me experimenting with layers, different drawing/shading techniques, etc… expect them to become a regular thing in July/August once the move is over and I’m settled in.

And finally, I’ve decided to keep the vote incentive as a randomly updated thing that has nothing to do with the current comic. When using it daily, I find myself relying on it to complete the strip and that takes away from the comic itself rather than adding to it. If I change my mind again in the future, you’ll read about it here.

I’m off to keep unpacking/organizing/cleaning the new place while I’m here. Expect Mondays update to be delayed since I don’t have a table to draw on and no internet in my actual apartment. Thanks for checking in, reading the strip, and bearing with me during all this bullshit. You rule.

My Absence

For those curious about my absence last week, you can catch up on it via my blog. I didn’t feel like posting it all over the place… if you’ve read it, you’ll know why. If you don’t care and just want new comics, hold your horses; they’ll be here soon.

Schedule Change?

Since starting the daily vote incentive for the site, I’ve started wondering if maybe I shouldn’t change the schedule so I’m not always having to draw for this strip at work, in my freetime, and on my days off. I mean, I really enjoy this strip a lot… like, almost too much… but I don’t wanna get burned out because I’m trying to do something 7 days a week.

So, I’m thinking about going down to 5 days a week (Monday thru Friday). Please, let me know what you think.

If I hear that you guys really enjoy the 7 days of updates, I’ll keep it going as a daily strip for as long as possible (if I feel the quality is dropping because of the number of updates, I’ll change it, of course). But if you don’t tend to check it on weekends, let me know and maybe a change to the schedule would be best for everyone. And by everyone, I of course mean me.

[update: as you can tell, I moved to the 5 day a week structure at the end of 2008 to keep my sanity in tact. Enjoy the two frames a day and hopefully I can move back to 7 days a week sometime in the future]

Running Gags?

I’ve started thinking about how to take both of my comics to a more professional type of level… I’ve started by working on getting a buffer started for each. So far, I have a few days done for each and am gonna try keeping it and maybe gaining another day or two. I also want to make them and their sites look better, hence the move to wordpress/comicpress and the more detailed comics you will see in coming days. But the biggest thing (for this strip) is to make the randomness more fluid and continuous…

So, I’ve started coming up with themes for running gags which I can use to help inspire randomness outside of what I would normally be drawing. The first strips of these series will be hitting over the month of December, and you’ll be able to tell them apart from others because the running ones will have tags, so in the future, it will be easy to cruise through all of the ones in one vein/theme.

One of them may involve following one person/character (who I’m working on making look a little different than my usual person) for an extended period so we can run through most of a day in his life. Others are just weird little ideas I’ve had which can spawn all kinds of weird comics. I think it will be fun and will help me to stay on time, upbeat about daily updates, and fresh with my humor on here. So, let me know what you think as they start hitting the web. I’m pretty sure you’ll be happy with them, though.
